Opportunity Nation is a bipartisan, multi-sector national campaign comprised of more than 300 employers, educational institutions, faith-based and civic organizations, community groups and nonprofits working to expand economic mobility and close the opportunity gap in America. As it moves to execute on an ambitious two-year strategic plan, Opportunity Nation seeks a skilled leader, influencer, storyteller, and champion to usher in a new era of growth and collective impact as Executive Director.
Reporting to the Founder and CEO of Be The Change, Inc., the Executive Director will inherit an exceptionally talented and effective team and collaborate with a committed board that is currently engaged across three campaigns: Opportunity Nation, ServiceNation, and Got Your 6. As chief spokesperson for Opportunity Nation, the Executive Director will carry forward the campaign’s mission and vision in a way that leverages a broad and diverse network of influencers on behalf of the opportunity movement. Success will be measured by the number of young adults who are connected to school and to work and will span three core strategies across all programs and initiatives: (1) Increase awareness of opportunity and the role that various factors, including geography, play in key outcomes through dissemination of data, analysis, and tools that frame decision-making and strategic messaging; (2) Drive policy change and private investments that impact opportunity in communities; and (3) Convince more leaders to make decisions based on opportunity factors, rather than more limited singular indicators, catalyzing a broad-based social movement that thrives on partnerships and collaboration. The Executive Director will both carry forward current programs and initiatives and develop the vision for Opportunity Nation’s future evolution, including ways to weave together the work of all the campaigns within Be The Change to maximize impact and capitalize on trends and opportunities.
The ideal candidate will be motivated by a personal commitment and connection to the cause of increasing economic mobility and opportunity in the United States and will have proven experience developing and executing strategies for collective impact. S/he will be an outstanding steward of high-level relationships, including with funders, champions in influential policy and private sector networks, and cross-sector partners. The Executive Director will bring an authentic and empowering leadership presence and a demonstrated record of developing top talent across high-functioning teams, preferably in an innovative, entrepreneurial, and mission-driven organization with national scope. S/he will have experience communicating strategy and results that are complex and intangible. S/he will bring keen instincts for marketing and communications strategy to ensure that the campaign’s work effectively informs national dialogue and action, connecting quality research, data, and tools to influencers and champions of opportunity to broaden engagement and drive measurable progress.
