Manager/Director of Government Affairs – American Land Title Association

ALTA is a national trade association headquartered in Washington, D.C. representing the real estate settlement services and title insurance industries. ALTA’s more than 4,300 member companies are located in every county in the U.S.
Position: Reporting to the Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs, ALTA’s Manager/Director of Government Affairs represents the interests of ALTA’s membership before the U.S. Congress and federal government. The Manager/Director educates and communicates with Members of Congress and their staff, participates in grassroots mobilization activities and assists in management of ALTA’s political action committee, TIPAC. The Manager/Director produces policy positions and messages; identifies, leads and completes projects; and drafts one-pagers, letters and Congressional testimony. The Manager/Director advises members of the trade association on issue developments and legislative strategy, manages association standing committees and staffs ALTA’s major meetings to promote membership involvement in the Association’s advocacy efforts.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have at least three years of experience in a staff position on Capitol Hill or similar experience lobbying Congress. He or she will possess an outgoing personality, polished social skills as well as an entrepreneurial and creative instinct that is complemented by excellent writing and presentation skills. They will demonstrate a proven ability to think for themselves and know how to learn what to say to provide a persuasive message to their audience. They will have drafted one-pagers, letters, Congressional testimony and hearing questions. The ability to quickly master and articulate complex ideas and legislative and political information is a must, as is the maturity to communicate clearly, concisely and candidly with colleagues. They will be able to identify short and long-term projects, balance a heavy workload meet deadlines and address changing priorities and work well under pressure. First-hand knowledge of federal legislative process is required; knowledge of political process, grassroots outreach, housing industry, trade association operations, and/or regulatory process preferred. Existing relationships on the House Financial Services Committee, Senate Banking Committee and/or the Administration are a plus. Some travel is required.
