McLean Bible Church (MBC) was founded in 1961, when five families came together to form a non-denominational church where the Bible would be taught. For three years, the church met in homes, schools, and other facilities until they finally got a building of their own in 1964, where McLean Bible Church remained for the next 20 years.
30 years later, Mclean Bible Church has more than 11,000 people attending each week at its seven campuses in the greater Washington, DC area. McLean Bible Church’s reputation in the community is pristine. With a vision and track record for reaching the lost, growing believers, and impacting the community, the church is poised for continued growth in the coming years.
The Director of Communications is responsible for the overall planning, organization, and implementation of communication strategies to fulfill MBC’s mission to make an impact on secular Washington, DC with the message of Jesus Christ. The position develops best-in-class strategies to ensure a consistent brand message across all communications efforts.
The Director of Communications manages media relations, external communications, promotions scheduling, and church-wide communication. This person manages the Copy Center and leads the Communications team, which is responsible for graphic design, digital media (including social media) the live webcast, the McLean Bible Church website and Roku channel. The Director of Communications collaborates with senior leadership to develop innovative communications solutions for MBC and is responsible for managing day-to-day MBC church-wide communications strategies. This person initiates relationships with MBC staff members and engages stakeholders to gain an understanding of their communications needs, recommending solutions and working with team to develop comprehensive and impactful communications plans to spread the gospel in the Washington, DC area.
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in a related area with a minimum of 5-8 years of relevant experience. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to handle multiple projects under deadline pressure.
Knowledge Areas: Communications trends and technology, media relations, social media, grammar, editing, writing, organization, process definition and management skills. Intermediate to high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications.
Flexibility for evenings/weekends required.
