Central Virginia Battlefields Trust is seeking to fill the position of Chief Administrator. The Chief Administrator (CA) is responsible for management and administration efforts to accomplish Central Virginia Battlefields Trust’s (CVBT) activities and mission.
CVBT was incorporated in 1996 and adopted as its mission the preservation of historic battlefield terrain. Since then, CVBT has helped preserve more than 1060 acres of critical ground on the battlefields of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, the Wilderness and Spotsylvania Court House. In addition to purchasing land, our mission includes advocacy for battlefield preservation.
CVBT works with and has collaborative partnerships with developers, other preservation organizations, the community and local governments. CVBT’s Board of Directors is responsible for the strategic leadership of the organization to ensure its future relevance, credibility and viability. The CA is responsible for establishing organizational objectives and priorities, doing the day-to-day administration, reviewing and evaluating the progress and work for attainment of CVBT’s objectives and goals. The CA reports directly to the President of the Board of Directors.
CA’s MAJOR ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
-Provides the management and administration of the CVBT office to carry out CVBT’s mission.
-Maintains communication with membership.
-Ensures policies, legal requirements and processes for financial management including all revenues, expenses, endowment funds, and investments are properly managed and reported.
-Ensures rigorous accountability and long term stability through the conservative fiscal management of resources.
-Administers the land management program including acquisition, writing grant proposals, collaborating with other entities and directing field activities to ensure requirements are met.
-Present written and oral reports to the monthly Board of Directors Meeting.
-Maintains the membership and volunteer database to ensure appropriate administration and actions and communication to include newsletter production, distribution and other communications.
-Assumes the primary responsibility for planning the CVBT Annual Meeting and other events and meetings determined necessary by the President of the Board of Directors or the Board of Directors.
CA KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to exercise judgment in:
-Researching, organizing, analyzing and presenting information to assist the Board of Directors in setting organizational policies;
-The daily administration of the functions and reports required to the Board of Directors, membership, volunteers, land management, other organizations and government;
-Discretion in communicating and in developing recommendations and proposals, interpreting implications and indicating alternatives and solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
-Education: University graduation or experience in an applicable field.
-Experience: Individual must possess relevant experience in non-profit, private-sector business or public sector organizations, including administration, operations and management skills.
Responsibility for initiatives involving significant dollar amounts and grant writing to government and other groups.
Experience working with volunteers.
Skills: Proven leadership, management, administration and team building skills. Ability to build consensus, rally support around common goals. Ability to overcome obstacles to cooperation and to foster harmonious relations. Strong administration and management skills.
Preservation and land management skills.
Balances competing priorities, complex situations, and deadlines with an attention to detail. Ability to think strategically and creatively, especially meeting CVBT’s mission and members requirements. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.
Ability to be articulate, concise, compelling and diplomatic.
