Position Summary and Essential Functions:
The Associate, Public Policy works with the Public Policy team to implement OFN’s policy priorities. The Associate represents OFN with national policy coalitions and other ally organizations. The Associate participates in national policy outreach through involvement in the OFN Annual Conference, OFN Advocacy Day, OFN Regional Member meetings and other CDFI policy leadership events.
Responsibilities including but not limited to:
Communicate OFN’s policy positions to members of Congress, Congressional staff and Administration officials.
Develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including but not limited to national coalitions and public/private institutions.
Monitor and analyze relevant legislation, laws, and regulations impacting the CDFI industry.
Prepare briefing materials, correspondence, and policy papers.
Represent OFN at events and meetings related to OFN’s policy positions.
Provide administrative support to the Public Policy team.
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Vice President, Public Policy.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree 5-7 years of direct professional experience of the legislative and regulatory processes.
A minimum of 1 year of professional experience serving as a Hill staffer.
Knowledge of federal appropriations process, and CDFI industry.
Knowledge of consumer finance, housing, small businesses, and tax is a plus.
Relationships and credibility with federal elected officials.
A strong appreciation for, understanding of, and commitment to OFN’s mission, vision and values.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements:
Exceptional communication skills in public and private settings both in presentation and written formats.
Ability to think strategically, creatively, and tactically to analyze results and assist in implementing plans.
Ability to interpret and analyze policies, public issues, legislation, and/or the operations of governments, businesses, and organizations.
Ability to write drafts of legislative proposals, correspondence, and policy papers.
Ability to set priorities, follow through on challenging situations and effectively manage time under minimal supervision.
Light to moderate travel required (5-15% of time).
No extraordinary physical requirements beyond ability to travel.
