The DC Bocce League Expands to Wednesday NightsEver since the DC Bocce League began, Tuesdays have been the only night of the week where 300 people gather together on Capitol Hill to play bocce, have fun and celebrate their inner Italian. However, the League has grown exponentially, and so to accommodate the popularity of this unique sport the DC Bocce League is pleased to announce its expansion to Wednesday nights at the start of the 2007 Summer Season. Now area residents can choose to participate in the League either on Tuesday or Wednesday nights, which is good news for all those bocce lovers floating around the District.
Founded several years ago by a close group of friends, the DC Bocce League is the District’s premier organized bocce league. In 2005, the League fully funded and constructed two courts in Garfield Park – the first and only public courts in the District of Columbia. Set up as a non-profit entity, the DC Bocce League has donated thousands of dollars to several charitable organizations; each charity selected at the end of every season by the top four ranking teams.
Games are played each week in Garfield Park located at 2nd and F Streets, SE. After games adjourn, members stroll over to the Pour House a few blocks away for food and drinks. The Pour House has been the DC Bocce League’s sponsor bar since their first season of play. During post-game happy hours, members can relax, socialize and enjoy beer specials courtesy of Miller Lite and Italian import Peroni, the Leagues’ two sponsor beers.
Bocce is certainly a competitive game of skill, but anyone at any age can enjoy it. The DC Bocce League is perfect for those young professionals interested in joining a sport that doesn’t require physical exertion. Coupled with the post-match festivities, the DC Bocce League is one of the best ways to have fun in the District!
Registration for the 2007 Summer Season opens on Wednesday, June 13th. Members can register to play either Tuesday or Wednesday nights. Teams must have a minimum of five players. Participants can register individually or as a team. The 2007 Summer Season starts the week of July 15th, with games played on a weekly basis through the end of August. Each season is capped with an End-of-Season party at Pour House.

Games are played Tuesday evenings on the fields of Garfield Park located at 2nd and F St., SE. After games adjourn, members stroll over to the Pour House a few blocks away for food and drinks. RacquetballIt’s cold and wet outside—let’s play racquetball. Intermediate player (a bit rusty) with a bit of competitiveness, seeks same, for reasonably fast-paced but not too serious games. I play at Montgomery College in Silver Spring/Takoma Park—they let non-students use the facilities at a great price. You can try it out for free. Parking nearby, nearTakoma Metro. Interested?
