Congressman Dan Burton (R-IN) is currently seeking unpaid interns for his D.C. office during the Fall and Winter of 2010/11. Primary responsibilities include staffing the front desk, answering phones, directly dealing with constituents, handling flag and tour requests, assisting with incoming mail, working with legislative staff on special projects and assisting them by attending hearings or briefings, and carrying out various other office duties. Interns will also conduct personal tours within the U.S. Capitol complex. They are expected to learn office procedures quickly and assume the responsibility of keeping up with the day-to-day needs of the office.
Congressman Burton’s dual role as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia and as Former Chairman and Senior Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government reform allows interns to meet and greet other Members of Congress as well as foreign leaders and policy experts when they come into the office for meetings with the Member and staff.
